The Court has granted our Preliminary Injunction Motion against the Department of Education (ED). While we celebrate this much-needed relief for our students, the underlying litigation and Program Review with the Department of Education is ongoing, and the result may impact the Free College Benefit. The College will continue to inform its students, employees, and stakeholders of any updates and next steps. In addition, these FAQs are subject to change.
A Teachout agreement in higher education refers to a formal arrangement made between academic institutions when one institution decides to discontinue a particular program or close altogether. This agreement outlines the steps and provisions for ensuring that current students in the affected program have the opportunity to complete their education uninterrupted or to transfer to a comparable program at another institution. Since EGCC has paused enrollment beyond the spring 2024 semester, the college must enter into Teachout agreements with partner teach out institutions.
Overall, the primary goal of a Teachout agreement is to ensure that students can continue their education with minimal disruption despite changes or closures within the higher education landscape.
